Gmail
Gmail connects one of two ways: by signing in with Google, or through Aimly's Custom provider with a Google app password.
Option 1: Sign in with Google
- When creating or editing a mailbox, select Gmail as the email provider.
- The credential fields are replaced by a single Sign in with Google button — Gmail mailboxes connected this way speak Google's API rather than SMTP/IMAP, so there is no address or password to enter.
- Click it. A Google sign-in window opens; sign in and approve access there.
- Aimly picks the sign-in up automatically and finishes with Finish Creating Mailbox.
If your browser blocks the popup, use the Open the sign-in page link Aimly shows while it waits.
Option 2: App password (Custom)
Use this if you'd rather drive the mailbox over SMTP/IMAP.
- When creating or editing a mailbox, select Custom as the email provider instead of Gmail.
- Enter your Gmail address and fill in Gmail's SMTP/IMAP host and port details.
- Continue to the next page and enter your Google app password.
Getting a Google app password
You'll need 2-Step Verification turned on for your Google Account first. Once that's on:
- Go to Google App Passwords.
- Enter a name (e.g. "Aimly") and click Generate.
- Copy the 16-character app password — Google only shows it once.
Paste that password into Aimly's app password field to complete the connection.
